As Courtney always states, "Why is it that I always make a scene everywhere I go?" I feel like Larry David from
Curb Your Enthusiasm. Yesterday, I was in the handicapped stall in the ladies room, which was empty at the time. I know that stall is designated specifically for handicapped people, but I like to use it because I can put my coat and bag down without it being right under my feet. Anyway, I heard someone come into the restroom and they were waiting for the handicapped stall. Great. I hurried up and when I walked out there was a girl on crutches who huffed and rolled her eyes at me. I was so embarrassed that I scurried out of the ladies room as fast as possible. Without washing my hands. This made me ponder back to a favorite episode of
Curb Your Enthusiasm when Larry David found himself in the same situation. He was condemned for using the handicapped stall by a man in a wheelchair. A few days later he waited in the restroom for a stall to open up and the same man in the wheelchair rolled out of a "regular" stall. Larry condemned the man for using his stall and told the man that he should wait for the handicapped stall to be available. I don't necessarily condone this behavior (you know, yelling at handicapped people) because I'm well aware of the purpose of the handicapped stall in the first place. But, I don't see why the girl on crutches had to be so upset with me. She only had to wait like five more seconds. Boo.

Ew that is lame. If no handicapped people were in line, then you were totally right to take the stall. It's not supposed to be open at all times just in case, and frankly, handicapped people can wait in line, too. Now if she were in line behind you and it opened up, the polite thing to do would be to let her take it, but since that isn't the case, she shouldn't have been so rude as to make you feel bad for using the open stall when no one was behind you before! Handicapped doesn't mean entitled to not waiting. And I'm sorry she was on crutches and maybe this rant makes me sound like a jerk, but still, you had every reason to go in that stall.
Allow me to laugh for a moment...
Well, you shouldn't feel TOO bad. She was only in crutches. I might have said something like, "Oh, honey, you'll not want to use that one now. Needs a match."
Just to be rude.
That seriously is ridiculous. That's like the only one I ever use...unless there is someone coming in at the same time that obviously needs it.
Wasn't yesterday cool!? I think the most moving part was how it all tied into Martin Luther King as well. I've cried like 10 times in the last two days....and went out early to buy a paper today. :)
Thanks for you notes on my blog. I appreciate staying in touch a bit.
Yeah, DEFINITELY seen that episode!
